Job Description

The Company: My client has been servicing the UK ophthalmic market for over 30 years. During this time they have introduced many revolutionary innovations such as the phaco and vitrectomy systems in the 1980s. With the advent of injectable intra-ocular lenses (IOL) in the late 1980's, They have grown to become the largest independent supplier of ophthalmic surgical and diagnostic products in the UK market.

The Position: We are looking for a dynamic individual who thrives in a challenging environment and works well in a successful team. They also have the ability to think commercially, identify opportunities to maximize sales and profit revenues in a unique, competitive environment. Organization, planning skills and a deep understanding of the surgical sales a process are important.

 Basic salary: £45,000 - £55,000

Bonus: c£15,000

Your experience

You should have either extensive Ophthalmic sales experience and be ready to make the transition into sales management, or be a current RSM (with Ophthalmic experience) looking to move and be hands on in training a young an dynamic team with bags of potential. 

The role

This is an excellent opportunity to 'learn the ropes as an RSM, bringing in your therapy area and sales experience, but also having the support of more experience RSMs around you. Regional Sales Managers are responsible for all sales activities within their respective regions managing a team across the Diagnostic (Capital) and Surgical (Consumable) Business units. 

Success within this role requires the successful candidate to be intuitive, think on their feet and develop growth within their designated region with the resources at their regions disposal.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate sustained success in the Surgical an Ophthalmology environment demonstrate Leadership and Management traits to ensure the continued development and upskilling of the team. The role involves having direct management of 5-6 Territory Managers who are relatively young and inexperienced within Medical or Ophthalmic sales. Main duties involves are as follows:

  • Ensure the Region hits Sales target across the Diagnostic and surgical portfolio.
  • Leadership of sales team with high focus on coaching and development with Develop tailored approach to individual’s needs.
  • Provide regular and accurate pipelines and Forecasts to the Sales Director, in line with company strategy utilizing the SalesForce CRM platform.
  • Lead and develop the regional sales team as per objectives and strategy.
  • Plan and ensure onboarding process for new starters is sufficient to their individual needs.
  • Establish and maintain Key customer relationships within the region.
  • Communicate market and competitor trends gathered through field activity.
  • Provide full technical support in sales presentations, product demonstrations and department meetings offering clinical based solutions based around commercially suitable proposals.
  • Prepare information for presentation during sales meetings.
  • Participate in industry events such as congress and regional meetings.
