Trainee Sales Specialist

£26,500 + £5k bonus

Job Description

The company:  You will be joining a global manufacturer and distributor of endoscopes, medical instruments, and devices. Their range of endoscopic instruments for human medicine, veterinary medicine, and industrial endoscopy now includes more than 15,000 products. The most recent developments are in digital documentation systems and comprehensive operating room concepts. As a system supplier, the company combines its expertise in endoscopy with software solutions to achieve integration in the operating room and to support clinical process and resource management.

The product range includes rigid and flexible endoscopes, instruments for the entire field of human medicine. Innovative products such as a fully digital video chain and the central image and data archiving system, make for documentation that is convenient, comprehensive and high in quality. A visionary OR concept for minimally invasive surgery of the future has taken shape: it is a fully integrated OR, centrally monitored and controlled, in which surgical processes and routine work are simultaneously streamlined and simplified.

The position: This role will develop your sales skills and experience within medical devices through contribution to the sales function of the Regional Sales Team as directed by the Regional Sales Manager and senior colleagues.  This will be through a variety of tasks and responsibilities which will evolve and develop in complexity as you move through your bespoke training programme with the aim of transitioning to the next stage of the sales training plan (Associate).

The transition to the Associate position comes upon successful completion of the training programme which typically takes around 12 months. You will then work in this Associate role for a further 12-18 months, which brings with it significant additional responsibility and financial reward. It is the perfect role to prepare you for the step up to an Endoscopic Sales Specialist Specialist, which carries ultimate responsibility for a territory/business and a lucrative base salary and uncapped commission scheme.

Basic salary: £26,500 in yearr 1 plus £5,000 bonus, £29,500 2nd year with 10-15k bonus, 3rd year OTE of £60k+ (c£35k basic, £33k commission)

Bonus: £5,000 objective based bonus (tied to completion of learning modules) 

Area working: Peterborough, Kettering, Northamptonshire, Cambridgeshire

Products: Endoscopy - rigid and flexible endoscopes & instruments for various disciplines including gynae, urology, neuro, gastroenterology, spine surgery, arthroscopy and sports medicine, paediatrics, laparoscopy, thorax, anaethesiology and emergency medicine, proctology, oral and maxillofacial surgery and plastic surgery.

Your experience:

  • This role is for an enthusiastic and confident Graduate ideally with a science-related degree and work experience in a customer facing environment. 
  • You will ideally have some sort of commercial or sales experience along with experience of success in a team environment. 
  • A working knowledge of an operating theatre environment would be a distinct advantage.  
  • You must have the willingness to learn, travel and work in a team environment and immerse yourself in the medical device industry. 
  • You will have experience of trying new things, working outside your comfort zone and taking on new and interesting challenges.
  • You must be able to demonstrate your communication skills, intelligence, work ethic, ambition and a winning mindset along with loyalty. 

The role:

  • Commit to and take responsibility for your own learning and progression through the Training Objective Points system under the supervision of your Training Manager, Regional Sales Manager and senior colleagues.
  • In doing so, develop your ability to contribute to the sales function of the Regional Team.
  • Assistance with regional logistics as required by the team.
  • Once certified, taking responsibility for training customers on equipment which includes the all associated paperwork and processes.
  • As training develops, taking responsibility for overseeing and supporting demonstrations of products in a clinical setting.
  • Organise your personal work diary, identifying tasks in order of priority based on urgency and importance.
  • Feeding back to internal colleagues all relevant information gleaned from day to day activities – competitor activity, customer feedback, sales leads, market intelligence. 
  • Use the company’s tools, systems and reports to establish, maintain and update accurate records of relevant information about existing and potential customers, key contacts, etc.
  • Attend, and contribute to Regional and National Sales Meetings.
  • As sales training develops, take on responsibility for discipline specific sales projects within your region.
  • Where appropriate, take ownership for the sales process for selected projects – from taking on an initial lead, to raising quotes, carrying out demos and securing a sales order.
  • Attend, as required and directed, local, national and international meetings, exhibitions, congresses and workshops, including setting up, customer contact, presenting and reporting, in order to aid business development.
