Job Description

The Company:  My client has been servicing the UK ophthalmic market for over 30 years. During this time they  have introduced many revolutionary innovations such as the  phaco and vitrectomy systems in the 1980s. With the advent of injectable intra-ocular lenses (IOL) in the late 1980's, They have grown to become the largest independent supplier of ophthalmic surgical and diagnostic products in the UK market.

The Position: This is a sales role dedicated to the North East/Yorkshire region.  You should have good work ethic and a drive to succeed.

Basic salary: to £38,000

Bonus: c£10,000

Area working: Scotland, Yorkshire, North East (not to be based Scotland)

Products: Phacoemulsification and Vitrectomy Ophthalmic Equipment

The role:

Primarily selling phacomulsification machines for Ophthalmic surgery to NHS and private hospitals the role will involve following up on many leads  (as numerous have already been generated), and conducting product trials in hospitals as well as trying to gain new leads/business and obviously closing sales. Many of these sales are done through tender and there are many stakeholders/decision makers involved.  Approximately 90% of this role will be spent scrubbed up in theatre dealing with consultant ophthalmologists, theatre managers and theatre sisters. The remaining time will be spent dealing with outpatient clinics and supplies. This is a technical sell that requires the ability to deal with technical information as well as building up strong relationships.Due to the dimensions of the new equipment it will be delivered to customer sites via a separate delivery process and other than meeting it on site and potentially having to wheel it around to theatres there should be no heavy lifting involved.

Your experience:

The successful candidate will have experience of selling to hospitals, any Capital Equipment or Theatre sales experience (especially if gained in Ophthalmology) would be an advantage but is not essential.  You must have strong sales figures on your CV and be able to talk these through at interview.
