What Other Job Types Can I Move Into Medical Sales From?
The world of medical sales is not simply reserved for those starting out in their careers – you can move into the industry from a different type of role if the experience you have gained in that job is relevant to whichever branch you want to move into.
The main industries that candidates tend to be trying to move from are usually other sales roles or other roles in the medical field where you would be exposed to the environment you would be working in, perhaps moving from roles in a GP Office or Pharmacy.
Other Sales Roles
Moving from other sales roles to a medical role is the most obvious way of entering the industry from a different sort of job. If you were a successful enough salesperson to even get an interview for a job in the healthcare branch of sales, then you will most likely have learnt all of the sales skills you require.
To get a sales role and be successful in the first place you obviously must have the required personality traits to make it in sales and once you have performed the role for a while you will have experienced the high pressure, results driven environment that defines such a role.
It could be possible for you to move over from any kind of sales job really – from phone sales to electronics sales, car sales to furniture sales – the fundamental skills are very similar. All you will need to do is prove that you are able and willing to learn about new products and industries.
Medical Roles
It is not just those who are already in sales that could move, but those who are actually in a medical-related job currently. This could be any number of roles, including those who work in a GP Practice, maybe as a pharmaceutical assistant or working in a hospital.
If you have been exposed to that sort of environment and crucially the products within it, then you may be deemed to have the necessary knowledge as this is where you would be selling and will have worked with and be aware of with the type products you may be selling.
You may also have been on the other side of the desk so to speak, meaning you will have a distinct advantage of knowing which tactics work and which do not when you are attempting to gain access to medical professionals.
