While a medical sales representative will travel around to appointments in an attempt to sell the products their company manufactures directly to healthcare professionals, the marketing team work mainly out of the main company headquarters to promote the product to a wider audience.

This can be done in a number of ways:

  1. Managing the company/product websites and any other form of promotion that is required.
  2. Managing the entire product portfolio or alternatively focusing on one specialist area.
  3. Creating all the materials the sales representatives use such as brochures – especially for product launches, newsletters, website content, exhibitions etc.
  4.  The marketing team are responsible for the way the product is positioned in the market, and requires them to keep completely up to date with the competitors and customers to ensure that the products are current and unique. This involves a lot of trend analysis and market research.

What medical marketing roles are there?

There are plenty of jobs within a medical marketing team, with the most senior roles (apart from Director) being “Marketing Manager” and “Product Manager”. They are the ones ultimately responsible for the marketing of the products, and they will be measured on certain metrics around sales of the products. Of course, there will sometimes be more junior roles such as “Marketing Executive“, especially in big companies within which the marketing team is bigger.
