Turbulent times...a time for caution, or an opportunity to press ahead?

It has been a momentous week, all things considered.  The very future of the Eurozone was in the balance, and business leaders the world over I'm sure, were watching and waiting for the outcome of the Finance Ministers' summit meeting.  The business leaders at Advance Recruitment were no different!

So what conclusions were drawn?  How are the current tough economic conditions effecting medical sales recruitment?  What are the consequences for the medical device representative looking for a new job?

I think there is a natural tendency to listen and hear the doom and gloom on the television and radio, and to read the latest depressing economic forecasts in the newspaper, and come to the conclusion that even thinking about career progression is nothing other than a folly.  It is all too easy for natural conservatism to take over and to adopt the mindset that one should be thankful for having a job at all and to push to the back of one's mind those resentments over the career development opportunities that had been promised to you in last year's appraisal not materialising.  Or that the territory that had been outlined as yours when you joined the company had now doubled in size, with none of your thoughts on the situation being asked or accounted for.

Well, I've news for those of you who recognise a bit of themselves in the above paragraph.  The medical device sales market is actually - whisper it quietly - doing alright.  We have not seen any huge decrease in the number of fresh vacancies coming through (in fact I challenge you to look in our 'Vacancies' section of this website and NOT find something that sounds that it might be of interest).  We have seen no redundancies being made.  Indeed, in conversations with many National and Regional Sales Managers, medical device sales teams are bringing in sales at a pretty healthy rate. 

In short, the message is this: do not let the doom and gloom in the media prevent you from pushing ahead with your career.  There are plenty of opportunities out there for conscientious and skilled medical representatives who wish to forge ahead with their careers.
