CV Impact
2010-07-09
Your cv must have IMPACT! It is the first interaction between you - the jobseeker - and the potential employer, and you know what they say about first impressions! So with this in mind, let’s explore how you can make the best possible start to your application for that important career move.
Ask yourself what a recruiting Sales Manager is going to see on the cv that will make him/her want to interview you. What can make your cv and application stand out from the crowd?
In short, unless a recruiting manager is looking for a specific skill or experience of working within a certain area of expertise, then you can be almost certain that what will set you apart is your level of achievement. If your cv contains specific details of your performance and the figures demonstrate significant growth in cash sales or market share, and if you detail awards you have won for top sales performance or detail how you have consistently ranked in the top 5% of the company’s salesforce over a period of time, then you are well on your way to securing that all-important interview. The reader of your cv will be left with the impression that here is a candidate who is good at what they do, who takes pride in keeping details of strong performance, and essentially who has proven sales ability and talent that can be harnessed for the good of the company.
In addition to detailing your achievements, it is important that your cv outlines the products you have sold, the customer base you have sold to and the territory you have covered. Do not clutter your cv with details of activities that any self-respecting rep will do as a matter of course. The recruiting manager will assume that you do the functional admin tasks on time and accurately! They don’t need to know the names of your pet dogs and which universities your children are attending. Keep it concise and to the point.
