Bad Weather - excuse or opportunity?

2010-12-16

Without putting yourself at risk, it is always advisable to attend interviews when the majority would prefer to stay at home if the elements are bad. Chances are that you will be up against fewer people because not everyone will be prepared to battle through. Companies are always impressed because attendance in these circumstances shows that you are a cut above the rest and such a mentality will result in extra sales!

Sometimes it is not possible to attend interviews – we appreciate that BUT we are finding that all too often weather is just an excuse.

You should pay extra attention to planning your journey in bad weather. Before travelling you should:

• check the weather forecast and road conditions

• consider alternative routes

• consider alternative modes of transport

• allow extra time for your journey

• ensure that your vehicle is ready for a journey in poor weather

• do you have an emergency kit?

• consider whether you need to change your driving style to suit the weather or conditions.
